A
visit to the Lower Hudson Valley Challenger Learning Center
is not just a field trip - it's an interactive learning experience that engages students and allows them to perform the same "hands-on" tasks that are done by real scientists, engineers, researchers, and astronauts.
The Lower Hudson Valley Challenger Learning Center uses a student's natural curiosity and enthusiasm for space to create innovative learning experiences for young minds. Students gear up their imaginations and transform themselves into scientists, engineers, researchers, and astronauts through their participation in the Center's simulated space adventures. The Mission Control and Spacecraft simulators within the Challenger Learning Center allow students to apply the concepts they learn in school to an authentic, real-world experience that is truly out-of-this-world!
Through scheduled team missions for students in grades 4 through 7, the Lower Hudson Valley Challenger Learning Center promotes leadership, communication, problem solving, and critical thinking skills as well, all of which support the New York State standards and curriculum in Mathematics and Technology, Science, Social Studies, and English Language Arts. Working with a team, accepting responsibility, experiencing shared trust, and building communication and problem solving skills are lessons that can never be over emphasized by children and even adults. In education, this is the right stuff.
The Lower Hudson Valley Challenger Learning Center is part of a growing nationwide network of interactive, "hands-on" educational learning experiences for students. The Challenger Learning Center provides on-site missions, teacher in-service training, and pre and post-visit curriculum materials for classroom use.
The not-for-profit Challenger Learning Center is operated by the Lower Hudson Valley Challenger Center, Inc.
